Amazon.com Review The sturdy green recycling truck from innovative toymakers Sprig is made of their trademarked "Stigwood" -- an eco-friendly composite of reclaimed wood and recycled plastic. Like other Sprig toys, it's not painted. Instead, it's dyed during the production process with safe pigments that have no heavy metals in them. This truck is good for the environment, and a joy to play with, too. A recycling bin is included that can be picked up and emptied into the truck, and there are plenty of other moving parts to keep children ages two and older entertained. Expertly Crafted Truck is Ready for Rough-and-Tumble Play All the parts on this expertly crafted truck function well, from the big tires to the mechanism that empties the recycling bin. The Sprigwood material is durable and sturdy, and all the parts will stand up to rough play. The levers and knobs that control the truck's mechanisms are big and easy to grasp -- just the right size for a child's hand. The truck is a cheerful green color flecked with bits of sawdust, which makes a nice change from the shiny, cheap plastic seen in so many toys today. The garbage can is the only small, detachable part, and it could get lost if kids don't pay attention. Teaches Kids About Recycling The truck can do everything a real recycling truck can do, including emptying a recycling bin into the back of the truck (The child does have to pick up and secure the bin to the truck). It can also dump all its contents when your child pulls on a lever. A bigger lever pulls the body of the truck back up so it can continue on to pick up more recycling. The truck moves smoothly when pushed. Kids will have so much fun playing with this lifelike truck that they'll naturally become curious about recycling. About Sprig Eco-conscious toymaker Sprig was born when three toy designers realized what an appalling effect traditional toy manufacturing had on the environment. After observing firsthand how toys got made, they understood that the process employed by the factories had a harmful impact on nearby air, soil, water, and plants. They were also disturbed by the emerging "watch-me" trend in electronic toys that encouraged kids to be more passive in their play. So in 2007, these three designers joined forces to create Sprig, which allowed them to build battery-free, eco-friendly, paint-free, kid-powered toys.

fun...but it broke in a week... August 6, 2010 jane doe This is a great toy and my two year old son loved it...but the little mechanism to hold the "dumper" broke when he pushed on the handle without releasing the lock on the side. It's too bad because it is a really neat toy. I do have some other toys from this company that are fantastic and durable...maybe I just received a bad apple...oh well, at least I can just drop it in the recycle bin.
Trucks for preschoolers June 7, 2010 Patricia Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio United States) My 3.5 year old grandson opened this gift and it was instant love. He knew what recycling was all about and could easily make the truck do its job in promoting imaginative yet reality based play.
great fun but, not sturdy! March 9, 2010 k.moore (Medina,Ohio USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
my son got this as a present and loves it! he plays rough and about 2 days after playing with this truck the back door broke off and we then wrote to the company (Sprig Toys) they were very helpful and replaced it for my son at no cost to us. We just got it today and I hope that this truck is much better than the last one......his face lit up when we open the box with his new truck!
2 1/2 yr old LOVES IT March 4, 2010 Shirley Lange (Bellingham, WA) All the Spring toys seem great but this garbage truck was just totally perfect for the 2 1/2 year old boy -- he is in heaven!
It's a recycling truck made from recycled plastic! March 3, 2010 Allison M. Rick Thrash (St. Paul, MN) I bought 2 of these trucks for Christmas - one for my son (age 2) and one for his cousin (age 2.5). After unwrapping these (which was fast and easy due to Amazons Frustration Free Packaging) they abandoned all of their other toys for the rest of the afternoon. It took a few days for my son to figure out how to snap the recycling bin onto the back of the truck (initially very frustrating), but once he figured it out he was so proud! Oh, and little boys will be pleased to know that most Matchbox and Hot Wheels vehicles are the perfect size and shape for "recycling".
